Hi there, I’m

Akshay

Hi there

My name is Akshay Kumar, I’m an web dev / digital designer and full stack software engineer. I have a passion for all things technology and design, from software engineering & machine learning to UI/UX & 3D graphics.

In addition to my love of technology and design, I am also interested in education, history, economics and politics.

Below are details of some of the projects I have developed over my seven plus years of coding experience.

Projects

Corporate Onboarding Solutions

2023-26

During my time at Cognizant, I had the opportunity to work with US Bank on developing corporate onboarding solutions tailored for corporate banking clients. This project aimed to streamline the onboarding process for new corporate clients, ensuring a smooth transition into the bank's services, much like the capabilities offered by Fenergo's Fenex platform. As the lead frontend developer, utilized React and micro frontend architecture to create a modular and scalable application. We integrated advanced technologies, including Copilot for AI-assisted coding, which significantly improved our efficiency and code quality. Key functionalities included document uploads, real-time status tracking, and personalized dashboards that provided insights into their banking activities. Similar to Fenergo's Fenex, our solution emphasized compliance and regulatory requirements, ensuring that all onboarding processes adhered to industry standards. We implemented automated workflows to reduce manual intervention, thereby minimizing errors and expediting the onboarding timeline.

Supersplit

2024-25

Collaborated with a team of friends to develop Supersplit, an application designed to simplify expense sharing within groups. Using React Native, we aimed to create a user-friendly interface that allows users to easily manage their shared expenses. My role primarily focused on adding minor styles and updates to enhance the overall user experience. We implemented features such as group name sharing, expense addition and deletion, and various other functionalities that make managing group expenses straightforward and efficient.

Supersplit is built with scalability in mind, allowing for future enhancements and features to be added seamlessly. The app is currently available on both iOS and Android platforms, making it accessible to a wide range of users with over 100+ downloads to date.

Portfolio (This Website)

2024

This was a project I built to learn more about 3D graphics and TypeScript and THREE.js, it contains a number of nifty features such as: a 3D retro computer that you can interact with, a very simple UNIX shell implementation, a files system implementation, markdown interpreter and renderer, and a text layout engine.

TextGPT: Your Virtual Co-Pilot for Smarter Text Input

2023-2025

Working alongside a friend, we developed the TextGPT Extension, a project that truly reflects my passion for enhancing productivity through technology. This extension serves as your virtual co-pilot for smarter text input in the browser, powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT. The idea sparked when we realized how much time we spent on repetitive text tasks. We wanted to create a tool that could generate intelligent, context-aware text directly within web applications and text editors. With features like customizable activation keywords and seamless OpenAI API integration, users can easily engage with AI assistance whenever they need it. Building TextGPT was a rewarding experience, as we focused on creating a user-friendly interface that allows for easy customization and syncing across devices. I’m excited to see how this tool empowers users to elevate their writing and content creation processes, making everyday tasks more efficient and enjoyable!

CREOS

2022-23

During my time at Cognizant, I had the privilege of working with JP Morgan Chase on an innovative project known as CREOS. This initiative aimed to integrate multiple repositories under a single micro frontend architecture, which was a game-changer for our development process. As the lead on this project, I was responsible for designing and implementing a robust build pipeline for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD). This not only streamlined our development workflow but also enhanced collaboration among teams by allowing them to work on separate components while still contributing to a cohesive application. The experience of introducing micro frontends was both challenging and rewarding. It required a deep understanding of various technologies and the ability to coordinate with multiple teams to ensure seamless integration. I was thrilled to see how this approach improved our deployment speed and reduced the complexity of managing large codebases.

The success of CREOS led to multiple new projects for our team and Cognizant, resulting in partnerships that expanded our capabilities and strengthened our relationship with JP Morgan Chase. It was fulfilling to contribute to a project that not only met the client's needs but also set a new standard for future development initiatives.

YouTube Bookmark Chrome Extension

2021

One of my favorite projects is the YouTube Bookmark Chrome Extension, which I developed to enhance the way viewers interact with videos. Inspired by the comment sections on platforms like Udemy, I wanted to create a space where users could bookmark specific moments in a video and leave comments. This idea came to me while watching a tutorial and wishing I could easily reference key points later. I envisioned a tool that would allow viewers to engage more deeply with content by sharing insights and thoughts on particular events in a video.

Building this extension was a rewarding challenge, as I had to consider user experience and seamless integration with YouTube's interface. It was exciting to see how a simple idea could foster community engagement and make video watching more interactive. I hope this tool helps others connect with content in a more meaningful way!

Complaint and Tracking System

2020-21

During my time at Infosys, I had the opportunity to lead the development of a complaint and tracking system for the Aetna CVS client. While the backend was already established, I took charge of connecting with clients to understand their needs and expectations, ensuring that the frontend design aligned with their vision. Focusing primarily on the frontend, I utilized React to create an intuitive and user-friendly interface. My goal was to streamline the complaint submission and tracking process, making it as seamless as possible for users. Collaborating closely with clients allowed me to gather valuable feedback, which I incorporated into the design to enhance user experience. This project not only honed my technical skills but also strengthened my ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. It was incredibly rewarding to see how my contributions helped create a system that improved user engagement and satisfaction.

This project, we achieved a significant reduction in ticket resolution turnaround time by 30%, improving overall customer satisfaction. The system also saw a 40% increase in user engagement, with clients actively utilizing the platform to track their complaints and provide feedback.

Decode Frontend

2020

Below is a project I created called Decode Frontend, which holds a special place in my heart. It all started when I realized how challenging it could be to find quality resources for frontend development. As someone who loves to learn and share knowledge, I decided to create a platform where I could compile frontend quizzes, problems, and technical questions for learners. I envisioned it as a space where developers could enhance their skills and find valuable resources. Using React and the latest frontend technologies, I poured my creativity into building a dynamic and engaging user experience. It was incredibly rewarding to see the project come to life, knowing it could help others on their coding journey.

Decode frontend is about 10K lines of code, it even has few users!

Disney + Clone

2019

Creating a Disney Plus Clone was an exciting journey that allowed me to dive deep into React and explore various technologies like Google Login and Redux. As a huge fan of streaming platforms, I wanted to replicate the user experience of Disney Plus while learning about the intricacies of web development. This project challenged me to think critically about design and functionality. I focused on creating a seamless user interface that mimicked the original platform, ensuring that users could easily navigate through content. Implementing Google Login added an extra layer of complexity, but it was rewarding to see users authenticate effortlessly. Through this project, I not only honed my technical skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for the design principles that make applications engaging and user-friendly. It was a fulfilling experience that reinforced my passion for building intuitive web applications.
